I’ y’avait un tas d’êfants à présenter dans la section ès mousses et j’têmes hardi heutheux auve la rêponse d’la fête ch’t’ année. Pouor la preunmié fais d’pis lé neu progranme d’ensîngnage, i’ n’y’avait pas d’run pouor tout l’monde à s’assiéthe ensembl’ye lé Vendrédi et lé Sanm’di matîn.
Espécialement, j’avêmes l’estîme qué les grandes groupes tchi présentent eune pliaiche tchi ‘tait hardi difficile. Lé Gruffalo par Julia Donaldson et traduit par maît’ dé Jèrriais Charlot Le Maistre ‘tait eune ênorme calenge. L’adjudicatrice dit qué lé Jèrriais ‘tait d’la bouonne qualité et l’s êfants avaient d’la cliaithe prononciâtion.
Lé tchoeu dé l’Êcole d’St Pièrre èrvînt ch’t’ année et presentis deux mangnifiques chansons, Lé Pouver en Mé par Rebecca Lawrence et I’ Tchait d’la Né par Geraint Jennings, auve l’aîgue dé sa maitrêsse Sue McDermott.
Deux nouvelles trophées fûtent presentées pouor la preunmié fais ch’t’ année. Ieune pèrpétual, ‘Lé Bachîn’, donnée par Madanme Joan Tapley, eune auteuse bein connue pouor la Section dé l’Eisteddfod, ’tait presenté au gangnant d’la Clâsse siêx chent huit, Présentâtion Dramatique. Additionnellement, eune aut’ neuve coupe, ‘La Coupe B. Lé Hérrisier’, donnée par la fanmil’ye Lé Hérrisier en memouaithe dé Brian Lé Hérrisier, défunt, qu’i’ pâlait not’ belle langue Jèrriaise, fut présentée au gangnant d’la Clâsse siêx chent, pouor les êtudgiants d’la preunmié et deuxième années.
J’voulons èrmércier Madanme l’adjudicatrice, Enid De Gruchy et s’n adjoint Monsieu Ken Syvret pouor lus aîgue. J’voulons èrmércier l’Assembliée d’Jèrriais étout pouor lus aîgue, comme d’habitude, à ch’t’ êvénement, et Madanme Maureen Lé Brun pouor aver prépathé les rafraîchissements, y inclus ses mangnifiques mèrvelles. Mèrcie bein des fais etout à Madanme Maureen De Gruchy, tchi donne san temps à si bein êcrithe les cèrtificats pouor la Section acouo eune fais.
Madanme Audrey Lucas ‘tait l’êtaile d’la Section d’adultes ch’t’ année, gangnant trais certificats platinum! Auve lé succès d’la Section ès Mousses j’éspéthons craître la Section d’adultes achteu et encouothagi d’s êtudgiants adultes dé prends part.
En pus, lé progranme d’s êcoles continnue à craître etout - et p’tit à p’tit j’sommes à craître les neunmethos d’s êfants qui font des êtudes en Jèrriais dans êcoles secondaithes. Lé progranme d’s adultes continnue à craître et j’avons plusieurs démandes entouor les léçons tchi c’menchent aprés Noué. Mèrcie bein des fais à la Société Jèrsiaise pouor la publicité en lîngne.
Ramémouaithez, tout l’monde sont beinv’nus d’aller pâler du Jèrriais duthant la s’maine au café. En pus d’la convèrsâtion au café d’Expression dans l’Mûsée d’Jèrri châque Jeudi à dgiêx heuthes et d’mie, les pâleurs d’Jèrriais sé rencontrent au café au village dé St Martîn touos les Mêcrédis matîns et au café dé Jersey Pearl à St Ouën touos les Vendrédis matîns. Épis, s’ou voudrêtes cacqu’ter auve eune pînte ou pouvez aller à l’aubèrge Adelphi châque Mardi à chîntch’ heuthes et d’mie.

Hello everyone it is Marianne Sargent here with la lettre Jèrriaise and fantastic news about the Jèrriais section of the Jersey Eisteddfod. The junior section has seen a massive increase in entrants and we were overwhelmed with the response to this year’s festival. For the first time in years there was standing room only at St Ouen’s Parish Hall on both Friday and Saturday mornings.
We were especially proud of our large school groups who performed a particularly difficult piece this year. Lé Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and translated by Jèrriais teacher Charlie Le Maistre proved to be quite a challenge. The adjudicators commented on the good quality of the Jèrriais and how clearly the children pronounced the words.
St Peter’s School choir returned this year to produce two more stunning performances – ‘Lé Pouver en Mé’ by Rebecca Lawrence and ‘I’ tchait d’la né’ by Geraint Jennings, under the enthusiastic guidance of their teacher Sue McDermott.
Two new trophies were awarded for the first time this year. A new perpetual trophy ‘Lé Bachîn’, kindly donated by Joan Tapley, a prolific writer for the section, was awarded to the winner of Clâsse 608, Dramatic Performance. In addition, another new cup ‘La Coupe B. Lé Hérrisier’, donated by the Lé Hérrisier family in memory of the late Brian Lé Hérrisier, a native speaker of the Jèrriais language, was awarded to the winner of Clâsse 600, for first and second year students.
We would like to say thank you to this year’s adjudicator Enid De Gruchy and to Ken Syvret for his assistance. We also also like to thank L’Assembliée d’Jèrriais for their continued support of this event, as well as to Maureen Le Brun for providing refreshments, including her magnificent wonders. Thanks also to Maureen De Gruchy, who volunteered her time to write the certificates for the Section once again.
Audrey Lucas was star of the adult section this year, coming away with three platinum certificates! With such success in the junior section, we hope to start building participation in our adult section next year and encourage some of our adult students to join in.
To other news. The schools programme continues to grow and we are slowly building the number of children studying Jèrriais in secondary schools. The adult education programme continues to expand and we have had several enquiries about lessons starting after Christmas, thanks to some added online publicity from La Sociéte Jèrsiaise.
Remember all are welcome to come along and speak Jèrriais in a social setting at our regular café conversation events throughout the week. As well as the weekly conversation at Expressions café in Jersey Museum at 10.30am every Thursday morning, speakers meet at St Martin’s village tearoom on Wednesday mornings and Jersey Pearl café in St Ouen on Friday mornings. If you fancy a chat over a pint you can also join Geraint Jennings at the Adelphi pub on Tuesday evenings at 5.30pm.
And an announcement: The Christmas Carol Service takes place next Saturday the 7th December at St Andrew’s Church at 2.30pm. If you would like to join us in the community centre next door for refreshments and a visit from Father Christmas(!) please phone the Le Brun family on 739341 to let them know.
We will also be carol singing during late night shopping this coming Thursday 5th December at 6.30pm outside Marks & Spencer on King Street. Come along and join us!
