Lé dèrnié tèrme ch’tait La Fête du Jèrriais, not’ célébrâtion annuel d’la langue. Ch’t’ année la Fête ‘tait miyeu qu’la fête d’l’année pâssée auve pus d’gens en attendance. Ouaithe qu’la Fête ‘tait pus courte qu’l’année pâssée, lé programme s’tâssait auve d’s êvénements pouor tout l’monde auve des difféthentes âges et întéthêts. Bein d’s êvénements plainnaient auve d’s auts’ groupes et organnîsâtions Jèrriaises et touos ches nouvieaux lians sont à l'aîgue d’la langue Jèrriaise.
J’têmes hardi heutheux d'aver lé support dé Pippa Le Quesne d’la Fête des Mots pouor la séthée d’Cidre, des poésies et des chansons et j’aimîmes êcouter d’la jouôthie d’musique traditionnel par Lihou et Kit Ashton des Badlabéques. Êpis j’avêmes eune séthée dé divèrtissement musicale quand les deux bandes èrtouônnîtent du Mûsée Mathitîme lé Sanm’di pouor un concèrt.
Heûtheusement j’avêmes deux mouontréthies d’art auve d’la langue Jèrriaise dans lé centre. Danny Rolf donnit eune clâsse entouor comme tchi qué l’Île dé Jèrri peut bâti des lians auve les arts alentou du monde et Martin Toft exhibiti san travas Bécque à Barbe auve des portraits d’pâleurs du Jèrriais. La Fête freunmit auve un êvénement auve d’hardi succés à La Hougue Bie, éyou qué des fanmil’yes auve des mousses prîntent part dans eune chasse dé Dragon, êprouvîtent des gammes Nouormandes traditionnel, et êcoutîtes eune histouaithe entouor Lé Signeu et l’Dragon. Appathémment pus dé deux chent gens vîntent à ch’t êvénement et don j’sommes bein heutheux.
J’voudrêmes dithe mèrcie bein des fais és voluntaithes d’La Sociéte Jersiaise et d’La Assembliée d’Jèrriais, et l’s étudgiants d’la langue, tchi vîntent pouor nos aidgi auve l’s êvénements duthant la s’maine.
Des mousses d’alentou d’l’Île sont à pratitchi hardi du pouor lus jouôthie à Jersey Sings, tchi prend pliaîche la s’maine tchi veint, Mêcrédi lé dgiêx-neuf et Jeudi lé vîngt dé Juîn à la Trinneté Showground. Les mousses s’sont à chanter eune traduction en Jèrriais d’la chanson bein connue ‘Pouver en Mé’ par Rebecca Lawrence, eune maîtresse en Jèrri. J’sommes èrconnaîssants à Kit Ashton et Badlabéques, qu’ont accordé dé jouer auve les mousses.
Lé programme d’êcoles continnu à craître et des lettres ont ‘té dêlivrés és mousses chu terme pouor c’menchi au mais d’Septembre. Additionnellement, la plian’nie d’l’Eisteddfod fait du progrès et j’attendons fête à pus grand fête qué l’année pâssée, espécialement dans les clâsses îndividuels. Ch’t’ année j’avons un aut’ tchoeu et j’sis à travailli d’accoster pus d’compétiteurs.
Lé programme d’adultes continnu à craître etout - i’ y a eune aut’ clâsse pouor les c’menchants à la Harbour Gallery à St Aubîn achteu. Ramémouaithez, tout l’monde sont beinv’nus d’aller pâler du Jèrriais duthant la s’maine au café. En pus d’la convèrsâtion au café d’Expression dans l’Mûsée d’Jèrri châque Jeudi à dgiêx heuthes et d’mie, les pâleurs d’Jèrriais sé rencontrent au café au village dé St Martîn touos les Mêcrédis matîns et au café dé Jersey Pearl à St Ouën touos les Vendrédis matîns. Additionnellement, s’ou voudrêtes cacqu’ter auve eune pînte ou pouvez aller à l’aubèrge Adelphi châque Mardi à chîntch’ heuthes et d’mie.
Et eune annonce: La préchaine rêunion d’La Assembliée d’Jèrriais est pouor lé dîner et la touônnée et s’en va êt’ Sanm’di lé vîngt-neuf dé Juîn. Hello everyone it is Marianne Sargent here with la lettre Jèrriaise and another update on how the Jèrriais programme is going. Last term saw the return of La Fête du Jèrriais, our annual celebration of the language. This year’s festival was even more successful than the last, with greater numbers of people in attendance. Although the festival was shorter this year, the programme was packed with events that aimed to appeal to people of all ages and interests. Many events were held in association with other groups and organisations and all these newly forged links are very much helping to raise the profile of Jèrriais.
We were delighted to have the support of Jersey Festival of Words’ Pippa Le Quesne for our evening of Cider, Sonnets and Songs and very much enjoyed the impromptu performance by traditional music group Lihou with Kit Ashton of Badlabéques. We were then treated to a whole evening of musical entertainment when both bands returned to the stage on the Saturday for a concert at the Maritime Museum.
We were also lucky to have two art exhibitions with Jèrriais at the centre. Danny Rolf offered a masterclass with the theme ‘How Jersey can connect with the international art scene’ and Martin Toft showcased his Bécque à Barbe work featuring portraits of the Island’s native Jèrriais speakers. The festival drew to a close with a greatly successful Dragon event at La Hougue Bie, where families with young children took part in a dragon trail, tried some traditional Norman games and listened to the legend of Lord Hambye and the Dragon. Apparently more than 200 people attended this event in the end so we are extremely pleased.
We would like to say thank you all those volunteers from La Société and L’Assembliée, as well as the language students, who came out to support and help us with the events throughout the week.
Children from all over the Island are practising hard ready for their performance at this year’s Jersey Sings concert, which takes place next Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th June at the Trinity Showground. The children will be performing a Jèrriais translation of the well-known school anthem Power In Me by written by Jersey teacher Rebecca Lawrence. We are grateful to Kit Ashton and Badlabéques who have agreed to perform and accompany the children.
The schools programme continues to grow and letters have gone out to children this term recruiting more learners for this coming September. Furthermore, planning for this year’s Eisteddfod is in full progress and we are looking forward to greater participation than last year, particularly in the individual classes. This year we have another choir entering the new choral singing class and I am working on recruiting more!
The adult education programme continues to expand - another new beginner class was launched at the Harbour Gallery in St Aubin during the Fete. Remember all are welcome to come along and speak Jèrriais in a social setting at our regular café conversation events throughout the week. As well as the weekly conversation at Expressions café in Jersey Museum at 10.30am every Thursday morning, speakers meet at St Martin’s village tearoom on Wednesday mornings and Jersey Pearl café in St Ouen on Friday mornings. If you fancy a chat over a pint you can also join Geraint Jennings at the Adelphi pub on Tuesday evenings at 5.30pm.
